In the Driver’s Seat

Hey everyone!!  Today I’m sharing a new baby layout made with various items from Things That Shine Kits and Bits.

DSCN4358For the background I layered and stitched down two different vellum dotted papers from MME over a sheet of patterned paper from Crate Paper’s Boys Rule collection.  Then I began adding bits and bobs from Ashley’s amazing Things That Shine store.

DSCN4331

I used these blue alphas from BasicGrey to create the title and dotted the eye with a tiny gold star from the Things That Shine embellishment pack Pop of Color in Neon Pink.  I painted this Things That Shine die cut star label with light blue acrylic paint, tucked it under a piece of book page from the kit packaging and layered it over a wood veneer flag tag from the Leaves are Falling kit.

DSCN4334

Here’s a fun layered embellishment I made with washi tape from Things That Shine, which Ashley sells by the foot.  I roughly cut out the FUN label and stuck that down as my base and began to layer on top.  I cut this little flag tag trimmed in light blue from another Things That Shine washi tape, then stuck it on a piece of white paper and then it cut out again.

DSCN4341

I layered some of the book pages that Ashley uses in the kit packaging under the photo creating a bundle that I tied up with seam binding from the Leaves are Falling kit.

DSCN4338

A cute tiny little light blue clothes pin from the Happy Day kit used to hold on a couple of stars.

DSCN4348

And the little stars themselves.  The yellow star comes from the A Love story kit and the red star comes from the Pop of Color in Red embellishment pack.  You can find these gold foil mini tags sprinkled throughout Ashley’s kits and bits or you can purchase the tags in gold and silver by themselves.  They are just awesome for showcasing little items.

Visit Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine here and see what she has in store for you!  I know she has an amazing limited edition Halloween kit to scrap all those Halloween photos you just took or have taken in the past.  So go and check out that spooky goodness!!!

Thanks soooo much for stopping by and I’ll see ya soon!!!  🙂

Finding What the Bunny Left

Hey there!

I’m back with another Easter layout for Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine.  I used Ashley’s Spring Showers kit, handmade feathers, and a few sequins from her Pop of Color in Neon Green.  I really love the BE AWESOME card included in the Spring Showers kit and knew I wanted to include it in this layout featuring my son showing off his Easter Egg Hunt loot.

DSCN3897

Now for some details…

DSCN3888

Here I layered a few sequins form the Pop of  Color in Neon Green over these lovely silver lined labels from the Spring Shower kit.  I added a little bit of light blue acrylic paint on the labels to relate back to the BE AWESOME card.  I misted the dictionary page that is part of the kit packaging with a bronze mist.  Who says you can’t mix metals!  I also did rows of machine stitching to bring a subtle texture to the background.

DSCN3890

A close up of the wonderful handmade feathers by Ashley.  They made me want to get some paint on my page too.  So I grabbed this parchment color and dry brushed it on.

DSCN3886

Like I said, I totally love this sweet “awesome” card and wanted it to really stand out on the page, so I used a walnut ink dabber to color cream photo corners to frame it.

Be sure to check out Ashley’s shop here, because it is so wonderful to work with things that inspire you to get even more creative!!

Thanks for visiting today!  I am taking a bloggy break and will be back the first week in September.  I am just about done with another Things That Shine pocket page and I can’t wait to share it!!  And for more fun things to look at, you can  follow me on Pinterest.

You Love to Camp

Hey there!  I’m finally posting my first Things That Shine layout today!!!  It has been a stressful few weeks of major computer problems leading to a not so sudden death last Thursday.  Ugh!!!  But, as you can tell I’m up and running, which means major dollars forked over for a new machine  and thankfully a techy type guy to transfer all our data over to this new beast.  So, on to the layout.

DSCN3769I used the first days of summer kit from Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine to create this layout.  This wonderful kit full of fresh greens and aqua blues was perfect for this camping layout.

DSCN3755This woodsy washi tape is a perfect back drop for my title.  I love the contrast of the masculine feel and the lovely sentiments.

DSCN3763

To coordinate with the washi, I used walnut ink to customize plain cream photo corners.  The layer of dictionary paper is actually part of the kit packaging.  I just dry brushed some acrylic paint over it to coordinate with the green embellishments from the kit.

DSCN3751

And last but not least, I had to include this detail, similar to my sneak post, of this super cute wood veneer tree and hanging birdie.  I placed the star embellishments around the tree to really give the feel of camping under the stars and also for my star camper!

So, pop over the Ashley’s etsy shop Things That Shine a get this wonderful kit for yourself.  It is perfect for capturing your summer memories; bike rides, picnics in the park, long walks, and more.  Actually I’ve got another project waiting in the wings I made with this kit and I still have left over goodies.

See ya soon with more Shiney Projects and visit Ashley’s shop so you can get Shiney too!!

Hotel de Ville

Hey ho, it’s a new month and it’s time for a new sketch challenge over at the super fun challenge blog Sketch-N-Scrap!!  Here is the March 1st sketch, #52:

1479369_10201523772641083_1631380556_n

And here is my take, a new Paris layout:

DSCN3115

Taking my cue from the photos, I was really playing with dark and light in this layout.  This can be seen in my paper and embellishment choices.

DSCN3120

Hotel de Ville translates to City Hall.  This building is Paris’ City Hall, not a hotel…lol!  Love this red patterned paper with the elaborate bows designed by lovely and fun Lisa Dickinson for JBS Mercantile.  I used red as an accent color, because of the woman in the photo wearing the red coat.  One amazing  thing I noticed while walking in Paris that there will be a sea of gray and black and one pop of red.  Do you think only certain people are allowed to wear red to create the effect?? (I jokingly wonder.)

DSCN3121

I layered these vintage buttons over this amazing Clock Mechanics stamp, an exclusive from JBS Mercantile.  And what is this guy pointing at?

DSCN3128

I steer clear from politics, but this is definetly a sign of the times and definetly capture worthy and…

DSCN3119

…warranted the use of this soldier card from Jenni’s Fortune Telling Mini Deck.  The little wood veneer arrows are from Pinkfresh Studio.  They are so cute and colorful on the other side, but I turned them over to work in this layout.  The ones at the top, I inked black.

I hope you enjoyed my layout and I hope you join in over at Sketch-N-Scrap where you have a chance to win a prize (a $20 gift card to scrapbook.com!!) and a chance to have your layout featured.  You have until the end of the month to link up so pop over to Sketch-N-Scrap by clicking here for all the details.

To create this bit of atmosphere on the background, I first painted a light wash of white acrylic paint (dabbing some paint off with a paper towel), then I sprayed over top of it with bronze Perfect Pearls Mists.

All I can say is get over to Sketch-N-Scrap and win yourself those amazing Crate Paper goodies!!!  If you have any questions about the supplies I used or techniques, feel free to ask me in the comments and I will leave an answer there asap.  🙂

A Pretty Little Shop

Hello, hello!!  Today I’m sharing my Paris layout, A Pretty Little Shop, that I created using the sketch from the October-Week 1 Let’s Get Sketchy Sketch Challenge.    Here’s the layout:

DSCN2520

Here’s the sketch:

Oct Wk1

Details….

DSCN2504

A Claudine Hellmuth wood veener dress form that I painted with her painterly pink paint and layered with her rub-ons (featured in a previous post).    Both chipboard buttons are from Jenni Bowlin Studio.  One is in her Wallpaper pattern and the other was raw chipboard that I made rather minty

DSCN2506

My take on the inky droplets from the sketch.  Gold dot rub-ons from Pink Paislee, sequins from the JBS April Papercrafting kit, pink buttons from My Mind’s Eye, and some tiny green and blue buttons from my Claudine Hellmuth HSN stash.

DSCN2514

Showing the layering and depth.  I finally had call to use this amazing diecut doily from Josephine Kimberling, which also came in the JBS April kit.

Supplies:  Patterned paper: BasicGrey mint Julep carolina & lois, Webster’s Pages Best Friend’s BFF’s, Echo Park Paradise Beach (6×6 pad); Ribbon: Webster’s Pages Best Friends; Wood veneer: Claudine Hellmuth HSN; Rub-ons: Pink Paislee (gold); Diecut doily: Josephine Kimberling a division of Anna Griffin; Alphas: October Afternoon Mini Market Land & Sea, Jenni Bowlin Studio Graph Alterable Alphas; Chipboard, sequins: Jenni Bowlin Studio; Buttons: MME Find Your Wings and Fly-Sky’s the Limit, Claudine Hellmuth HSN; Twine: Webster’s Pages; Stamp: October Afternoon “Streets of Paris”; Ink: Jenni Bowlin for Ranger(Seed Packet); Paint: Claudine Hellmuth Studio; Punch: Fiskars Threading Water; Thread: Coats and Clark; Pen: Zig Millinenium.

There are items in this layout from the April, June, and July JBS Mercantile kits, which are all on sale at JBS Mercantile.  Also, I purchased  the Wallpaper chipboard buttons and Graph Alterable Alphas when they were featured as Jenni’s monthly Mercantile Dime Store Deals…love those!!!

I feel like this post is a little short and sweet for me.  I guess that’s the kinda mood I’m in today.  🙂

I hope you enjoyed your visit.  See ya soon!!!!

On a Paris Corner

Hello everyone!!  Today, I’m bringing you a new Paris layout (the last of the graffiti shots, I think).  I used floral patterned paper by BasicGrey from the Mint Julep collection and light-hearted embellishments as a contrast to this grittier side of Paris.

DSCN2431

On this layout I did a large photocopy transfer of the actual photo on the right.  This time with the transfer I was experimenting with the application of the multi-medium by not brushing it on evenly in some areas, so I would get a loose brushy effect.  [It reminds me of a technique I remember seeing in photography where you brush the emulsion on the paper before you develop the image.]  Even though I’m happy with the results of this transfer, I don’t know that I would attempt such a large one again, especially on this paper weight.  It did turn out to be one of my most lumpy and bumpy layouts.

DSCN2435

A brushy transfer detail with some Jenni Bowlin Studio Notebook Grid Paper Tape.

DSCN2437

More brushy detail with the October Afternoon Travel Girl “Streets of Paris” stamp; stamped in JBS Cough Syrup ink.

DSCN2444

I just can’t get enough of patterned paper showing through transfers.

DSCN2440

And here getting a little labor intensive; cutting out the individual arrows from the awesome Jenni Bowlin Studio Tiny Trims Revised rub-ons in Gold.  Also, playing with the JBS/Fiskars Ticket Please punch.

DSCN2453

I created this embellishment by layering the October Afternoon Travel Girl Sew Fun Banners over the red polka dotted flag I cut from the Pebbles Printed bag.   I love how the bag is a bit transparent, like the paper tape, and the photo transfer.

DSCN2446

I used the BasicGrey Mint Julep collection alphas to create the title that I layered over more stamping.  I only inked up a portion of this large stamp to get the effect I wanted.

I know….so many details, so little time!!

Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterened paper, BasicGrey Mint Julep naomi, Amy Tangerine Ready, Set, Go; Banner flags, rubber stamp: October Afternoon Travel Girl; Printed bag: Pebbles; Paper tape, rub-ons, stamping ink: Jenni Bowlin Studio; Chipboard alpha: BasicGrey Mint Julep; Wood veneer: Claudine Hellmuth HSN; Multi-medium: Claudine Hellmuth Studio; Thread: Coats and Clark; Pen: Zig Millennium; Other: brads, ribbons.

Some of you have been asking me about the Photocopy Transfer Process.  The next time I do one I will create a tutorial, so sit tight…lol!!   Also, the majority of this layout was created with the June 2013 Papercrafting Kit from JBS Mercantile.  This kit is now 25% off and Jenni is having a big sale on past kits this month!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!!  See ya soon!!!

Entrez, vous – we have a winner!

Hi everyone!!  I have a new Paris layout to share titled Entrez, vous.

DSCN2375

Graffiti??  I’m not an advocate for graffiti, so I’ll try to put into words why I took these pictures.  Like I said in my very first Paris layout, I had awe and amazement for my foreign surroundings and the graffiti on these ancient doors was no exception.  Maybe I took the shot because I didn’t expect to find graffiti in Paris, on beautiful old buildings.  Although, most big cities have graffiti, it’s typically not what one thinks of when thinking of Paris.  The Eiffel Tower, the Arc De Triumphe, and the Louvre, but not graffiti.  I remember seeing part of an episode of Project Runway that was filmed in Paris and the contestants were to use Paris as inspiration for a design.  Well, one designer used the graffiti she had seen in Paris as inspiration.  I remember one of the judges couldn’t understand why she would use the graffiti for inspiration when there was all the beauty of Paris around her.  I was thinking… I get it…I get why she used the graffiti.  It is not as simple as “Wow, look, that’s French graffiti”, but in a way it is.

This is actually 2 photos; doors (left) that open up to a courtyard (right) for an apartment building.  My husband reminded me that these large entrys were orignally made for the horse drawn carriages.  I used foam strips to raised up the right photo and slightly layer it over the left one.  I decided to use the photos in my layout symbolically.  For me it is about having faith in yourself every day, having faith to take the next step even though it may be a bit scary, and having faith to continue on your path.

And now for the details…

DSCN2389

I painted an uneven layer of Claudine Hellmuth Studio gesso over the BasicGrey patterned paper.  I then cut up this Jenni Bowlin Studio Rub-On Single into random shapes and roughly rubbed them on, overlapping as I went.  I have been using a lot of gold thus far in my Paris layouts, but I thought the sliver picked up the silvery tone is some of the spray paint in the photo and that the floral pattern contrasted nicely to the graffiti image.

DSCN2385

Another shot of the rub-on with a bit of JBS Bleached Woodgrain Paper Tape.  You can see the silver rub-on looks darker here.  It’s tone depends on the way the light hits it.

DSCN2376

A little stack of labels and tags to support the title.  I used foam strips and glue dots to seperate the layers and give the stack dimension.

DSCN2380

This transparency is a page from the JBS Hodge Podge Book-Look.  Through the darkness to “Sunshine Hall”.  This layer couldn’t have been more fitting behind this photo.

DSCN2382

Faith, gotta have it to get you through it!  To make the word faith stand out amongst the other letters, I left f-a-i-t-h the orignal mushroom gray color and painted a thin layer of gesso over the rest.  I also sanded them a bit.

Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: BasicGrey knee highs hopscotch, JBS Modern Mercantile Etcetera; Journaling tags and labels: Chic Tags Snip’em Tags Road Trip, JBS Flag Tags, vintage from the JBS Mercantile May 2013 Papercrafting Kit; Transparency: JBS Hodge Podge Book; Rub-Ons: JBS Floral Background, 3 Birds; Paper tape: JBS; Aphas: jilibean Soup Alphabeans; Gesso, multi-medium: Claudine Hellmuth Studio; Punch: Jenni Bowlin for Fiskars File This; Thread: Coats and Clark; Pen: Marvy UCHIDA; Glue dots: Glue Dots International; Foam strips: Therm O Web.

For those of you that are new to my Paris Series and those of you that have been following along, you may be wondering, “Where are the pictures of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc De Triumphe, and the Louvre?”  Well, they are coming, they are in that stack, but I decided to work with the pictures in the order I took them.  I’m really enjoying the process and I hope you are too!  Hopefully, we’ll make it through this first walk, on this first day in Paris by Christmas, lol!!!

And now for the moment you’ve been waiting for…. the winner to my Lucky Me, Lucky You Give-Away is #14 Totem.  Yay Totem!!  Congrats to you!  I will email you shortly for your address and send your kit out to you asap!  Thanks to everyone for playing along!

See ya soon!

Inside a Paris Apartment

Today we find ourselves inside a Paris apartment, well through my journalling that is.

DSCN2299

You can see that the photo in the layout shows the outside of Paris apartments, so I used my imagination to describe what it might be like on the inside.  I was back on Google Maps finding the exact location where this picture was taken.  There is a sign in the lower left side of the photo, sticking out from the building, that says AtolL PALME (sorry it’s illegible here), which is a women’s clothing store and is located right below.  So there is apartments and offices(?) on top and shops below.  But that AtolL PALME sign helped me find that these buildings are located on Rue du Temple.  I feel a bit like I’m playing detective when I go on Google looking for some of the locations in my photos.  My husband says that if we ever get back to Paris that my head will explode…I think he is right!!  And now for some details…

DSCN2276

This wood veneer chair is from Claudine Hellmuth’s HSN line.  I painted and stamped it with Claudine Hellmuth Studio paints and used the Floral Background clear stamp, an exclusive from Jenni Bowlin MercantileHere are the paint recipes:  traditional tan + dash of red =  muted pink; dash of red + sable brown + a tiny bit of smidge of blue = burgundy.

DSCN2291

Tearing back layers of paper,…painting and stitching in cracks,…and using Claudine’s paints to customize my light gray Bazzill cardstock.  Paint recipe:  sky blue + painterly pink = the perfect sort of dusty blue to go with the Jenni Bowlin journaling card.

DSCN2302

To make these mushroom gray letters, by jillibean Soup, stand out against the background I colored the word “apartment” with an Amy Tangerine dark gray Slick Writer.  You can see I left the centers of the letters the orignal lighter gray, which ties back to the “a” in the title and the gray bouquet bow.  I also love the grid pattern in the very center of the letters that relate back to the upper background paper and the JBS journaling cards.

DSCN2283

Gold embossing….

DSCN2288

more gold embossing!!  The Monday Challenge Blog over at Simon Says Stamp is featuring embossing this week.  I was inspired to pull out my gold Zing! embossing powder and Teresa Collins Fabrications “Canvas” Stamps to add some finishing touches to this layout.  I think it really says “Paris” and ties together the other gold elements in the layout; which are the gold Color Shine spray ink and gold flower button.

Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: BasicGrey knee highs four square, Taylor for daisyd’s (grid); Journaling cards: Jenni Bowlin Studio Be Our Guest; Doily sticker: Martha Stewart Crafts; Dimensional sticker: K&Company Happy Trails Paris Grand Adhesions; Wood veneer: Claudine Hellmuth; Alphas: Glitz Teeny Alphas, Heidi Swapp, Jillibean Soup Alphabeans; Punches: Fiskars; Embossing Powder: American Crafts Zing!; Clear stamps: JBS Mercantile, Teresa Collins; Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink frayed burlap; Spray ink: Heidi Swapp Color Shine; Acrylic paint, multi-medium, extra-time: Claudine Hellmuth Studio; Photo corners: 3L; Pens: Amy Tangerine, Marvy UCHIDA, Zig Millennium; Thread: Coats and Clark; Other: fabric, ribbon, button.

I hope you enjoyed my Paris musings.  As always, if you have a questions about how I did something on my layout, feel free to put it in “Comments” and I will answer you back there asap!

Look for a “Big Giveaway” here on my blog at the beginning of next week to celebrate the fact that I have been blogging for one year this month.  Yay!!  See ya then!
