With Granny

Hi everyone!!

Today I am bringing to you a new Things That Shine layout.  I have to tell you the more I work with Ashley’s kits the more inspired I become.  I was planning to say that this is my favorite layout to date, but I actually have a new layout in the works that is fast becoming my new favorite.  That’s a good thing right…to always love the project you are currently working on the most!!  🙂  For this layout I used items from these Things That Shine kits: Celebrate Summer, Spring Showers, and Leaves are Falling.

I went back in time for this layout.  This is a photo of my mom holding my son.  They both look younger, LOL! (Sorry Mom!)  I just love my son’s serious face and my mom’s apparent joy.

Two sweet birds, a cross stitch rose, polka dots, and a doily…these Things That Shine really emphasize the theme of grandson and granny,

with thoughts of love,

and cause for celebration.

And now for a DIY photo corner:

Just trim off the corner of any envelope with patterned scissors and slide the new fabulous corner over the photo!

Seize the Day

Hi all!

Today I’m sharing with you a layout I made back in March and never posted here.  It was featured on the Jenni Bowlin Studio Inspiration blog on April 1st!!

DSCN3289

The photo is of my son walking across a carnival fun house bridge.  The page was made with the JBS Mercantile March 2014 kits.  I went a little crazy and bought 4 out of 5 kits offered!!  It was definitely worth it; there was so much awesomeness in those kits.  They had Jenni’s new releases, Betsy’s flatbacks, and Lisa’s exclusive papers.  This background paper by Lisa is so amazing I didn’t have to do a thing to it.

DSCN3301

Here is a detail of Jenni’s gold Scattered Stars rub-on layered over spray ink that I brushed on to mimic and relate back to the patterned paper.

Well, that is about it for today.  I am working on a couple of new Things That Shine projects that I’m super excited about and hope to share them with you soon.  Check out my Things That Shine Pinterest board for a kind of preview of my projects.  I’ve pinned the new Things That Shine kits I’m working with.

Now go make some art!!  🙂

Beauty Contains Beauty

We’re back in Paris today; in the Musee d’Orsay.

The Musee d’Orsay was one of my most favorite museums in Paris.  The building itself, is a former railway station, which contains mostly Modern Art.  In our short visit, we actually went there twice.  Today I’m using kits from Things That Shine to preserve this beautiful memory.  I mainly used the Celebrate Summer kit with the addition of one of Ashley’s handmade gorgeous glittery bows.

I hadn’t scrapbooked in about three weeks and I was feeling pretty rusty before I began this layout.  So, I decided to use Sketch #64 from my friends at Sketch-N-Scrap.  There is nothing like a sketch to get you back in the groove again.  It didn’t take long for the ideas to start flowing and the layout to take shape.

A closer look….

I had been hoarding this JBS clock rub-on just for these picture, but I never though I would rub it on the gold-dotted MME vellum and layer it with these wonderful elements from Things That Shine.  The leather doily is from the Celebrate Summer kit, the seal and gold tag come packed with the glitter bow embellishment, and the red sequin is from the Pop of Red embellishment pack.

And here is that gorgeous bow that comes two to a pack.  I tucked a Things That Shine tag behind it and added some red twine.

I love this multi-colored triangles washi from the Celebrate Summer kit, which acts like arrows on this layout.  I layered it over some scrap painted paper that I saved and tucked under the polka dotted fabric tape, also from the kit.

Texture, layers, drops, and a label.  I am amazed at all the goodness that comes in Ashley’s kits. It makes scrapping so much fun!

A New Shiney Pocket Page

Hey everyone!

As promised I’m here to share my second ever pocket page.  This is a Design D pocket page from Becky Higgins.  I just cut one side of the 4×6 pockets off to suit the amount of photos and cards I wanted to use.  I made this insert to go between my last two Easter layouts, using the same Things That Shine Kits and other scrappy products.  I used the Things That Shine Spring Showers kit, sequins from the Pops of Colour packs in neon pink and neon green, a hand painted tag from the Pop of Colour pack in neon yellow, a bit of washi from the Days of Summer kit, and one of Ashley’s gorgeous handmade feathers.

DSCN3926

Here you can see I have two see through pockets.  I made a shaker pocket with sequins and those super cute wood veneer umbrellas from the Spring Showers kit and stitched an arrow, cut from Echo Park patterned paper, on top of another page protector pocket.  I handmade the 3×4 cards using patterned paper with a little misting, pink patterned fabric tapes from the Spring Showers kit, and  stitched on sentiments cut from an Easter card sent from my mom.

DSCN3937Even though this is a pocket page I can’t seem to get away from making titles.  At age 11 my son is still Lovin’ the Bunny and I wrote a little note to him about that in the top right 4×6 card that I made.  I use this floral patterned envelope, tag, and lavender floss included in the Spring Showers kit for this secret journaling.

DSCN3943

I love that the Crate Paper patterned paper I used for this card says Field Research in the top right hand corner.  I thought it was a perfect background for notes and a taped on feather.  And here is where I apologize for my lack of photography skills!!!  I am having a tough time with the glare on the pocket pages and would love any suggestions for improvement and also I was experimenting with the size at which I was photographing my pages and I guess I went to small.  Yikes…but I wanted to post it…You can always enlarge on your computer to get a better view and please feel free to ask if you having any questions about how I did anything or what supplies I used.

Here is how my Easter pages will go in my album:

Did you know Ashley sells washi tape by the foot in her Things That Shine shop?   It is great to get a foot or two of a variety of tapes instead of having to by whole rolls that you never will use.  I for one am loving this.  Pop over to her shop and check out all the amazing patterns she has!  Also, consider following me on Pinterest where you can see the current Things That Shine kits and bits I am using, my Things That Shine projects, and all sort of other of loveliness that catches my eye.  🙂

See ya next week with a new Shiney layout, that I have to reshoot 😦

Happy Scrapping!!!

I’m back…

…with a little sneak for Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine.

DSCN3914

Layers of hearts; a handmade pocket page card using the Spring Showers kit.  I hand cut both the vellum and fabric hearts using a good old template!  I decided to leave the pencil around the vellum heart to help define it against the light background.  I just love the sweet fabric tapes that come in the Spring Showers kit and that is what I cut this floral heart from.  On top of the page protector I added this acrylic mint heart  (also from the kit),  to complete the layers of love 😉  I can’t wait to share the full pocket page with you.  Look for it next week, here on my blog.

********************************************************************************************

During my two weeks break from blogging, my family and I packed up the tent trailer and went on a road trip.  It was so nice to get away from everything for fun, adventure, and quality family time! Part of our trip included traveling through the great state of Texas.  Our mission was to see the Alamo, which is great and all, but I was super excited to meet a fellow blogger Connie Mercer from Crafty Goodies!!  It was so great to meet this super crafty scrapper in person.  We met at her local LSS, Craft Crossing, and had a blast talking up a storm about scrapbooking, of course. I love Connie’s artsy vintage style and it truly was inspiring to meet her!!  Connie also shared with me some awesome JBS goodies (thanks Connie!!) and I just had to go shopping in the store…Pam the owner has created the best little craft shop and she is super sweet too!  Connie posted a picture of us at Craft Crossing on her blog.  Click “here” to check it out.

Thanks for stopping by today and don’t forget to visit Ashley’s amazing etsy shop Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine for some shiney goodness!
