In the Driver’s Seat

Hey everyone!!  Today I’m sharing a new baby layout made with various items from Things That Shine Kits and Bits.

DSCN4358For the background I layered and stitched down two different vellum dotted papers from MME over a sheet of patterned paper from Crate Paper’s Boys Rule collection.  Then I began adding bits and bobs from Ashley’s amazing Things That Shine store.

DSCN4331

I used these blue alphas from BasicGrey to create the title and dotted the eye with a tiny gold star from the Things That Shine embellishment pack Pop of Color in Neon Pink.  I painted this Things That Shine die cut star label with light blue acrylic paint, tucked it under a piece of book page from the kit packaging and layered it over a wood veneer flag tag from the Leaves are Falling kit.

DSCN4334

Here’s a fun layered embellishment I made with washi tape from Things That Shine, which Ashley sells by the foot.  I roughly cut out the FUN label and stuck that down as my base and began to layer on top.  I cut this little flag tag trimmed in light blue from another Things That Shine washi tape, then stuck it on a piece of white paper and then it cut out again.

DSCN4341

I layered some of the book pages that Ashley uses in the kit packaging under the photo creating a bundle that I tied up with seam binding from the Leaves are Falling kit.

DSCN4338

A cute tiny little light blue clothes pin from the Happy Day kit used to hold on a couple of stars.

DSCN4348

And the little stars themselves.  The yellow star comes from the A Love story kit and the red star comes from the Pop of Color in Red embellishment pack.  You can find these gold foil mini tags sprinkled throughout Ashley’s kits and bits or you can purchase the tags in gold and silver by themselves.  They are just awesome for showcasing little items.

Visit Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine here and see what she has in store for you!  I know she has an amazing limited edition Halloween kit to scrap all those Halloween photos you just took or have taken in the past.  So go and check out that spooky goodness!!!

Thanks soooo much for stopping by and I’ll see ya soon!!!  🙂

A Bundled Up Baby

Hey guys!  I’m here today, bringing you a cozy Things That Shine layout using the Leaves are Falling kit.

DSCN4317

Here’s my little guy, just 5 months old, all bundled up in his stroller and getting some fresh air.

DSCN4289

This soft blue double bow was made from seam binding layered over a wood veneer flag tag and topped with a gold fabric leaf all from the kit.

DSCN4293

Also in the kit are a beautiful array of soft blues and greenish doilies that I tucked behind the photo and embellishments.

DSCN4299

I love this large label trimmed with aqua blue that comes in the kit.  It really sets off the photo from the background.  About the background…I used this blue floral paper from Crate Paper, but wanted to tone it down.  I tried layering a sheet of white tissue paper over it which is actually from the kit packaging (along with a beautiful ribbon and tag), which Ashley so neatly and beautifully wrapped up the contents of the kit in.  I stitched the tissue on in a quilt like manner and was pleasantly surprised with the blankety feel the background has.  I also used gold photo corners from the kit to finish off the layout.

You can get your own Leaves are Falling kit and other beautiful and unique kits and bits at Things That Shine.

Have a wonderfully creative day and I will see you back here soon!!!!  🙂

With Granny

Hi everyone!!

Today I am bringing to you a new Things That Shine layout.  I have to tell you the more I work with Ashley’s kits the more inspired I become.  I was planning to say that this is my favorite layout to date, but I actually have a new layout in the works that is fast becoming my new favorite.  That’s a good thing right…to always love the project you are currently working on the most!!  🙂  For this layout I used items from these Things That Shine kits: Celebrate Summer, Spring Showers, and Leaves are Falling.

DSCN4063

I went back in time for this layout.  This is a photo of my mom holding my son.  They both look younger, LOL! (Sorry Mom!)  I just love my son’s serious face and my mom’s apparent joy.

DSCN4034

Two sweet birds, a cross stitch rose, polka dots, and a doily…these Things That Shine really emphasize the theme of grandson and granny,

DSCN4037

with thoughts of love,

DSCN4043

and cause for celebration.

And now for a DIY photo corner:

DSCN4016

Just trim off the corner of any envelope with patterned scissors and slide the new fabulous corner over the photo!

See!!!

A New Shiney Pocket Page

Hey everyone!

As promised I’m here to share my second ever pocket page.  This is a Design D pocket page from Becky Higgins.  I just cut one side of the 4×6 pockets off to suit the amount of photos and cards I wanted to use.  I made this insert to go between my last two Easter layouts, using the same Things That Shine Kits and other scrappy products.  I used the Things That Shine Spring Showers kit, sequins from the Pops of Colour packs in neon pink and neon green, a hand painted tag from the Pop of Colour pack in neon yellow, a bit of washi from the Days of Summer kit, and one of Ashley’s gorgeous handmade feathers.

DSCN3926

Here you can see I have two see through pockets.  I made a shaker pocket with sequins and those super cute wood veneer umbrellas from the Spring Showers kit and stitched an arrow, cut from Echo Park patterned paper, on top of another page protector pocket.  I handmade the 3×4 cards using patterned paper with a little misting, pink patterned fabric tapes from the Spring Showers kit, and  stitched on sentiments cut from an Easter card sent from my mom.

DSCN3937Even though this is a pocket page I can’t seem to get away from making titles.  At age 11 my son is still Lovin’ the Bunny and I wrote a little note to him about that in the top right 4×6 card that I made.  I use this floral patterned envelope, tag, and lavender floss included in the Spring Showers kit for this secret journaling.

DSCN3943

I love that the Crate Paper patterned paper I used for this card says Field Research in the top right hand corner.  I thought it was a perfect background for notes and a taped on feather.  And here is where I apologize for my lack of photography skills!!!  I am having a tough time with the glare on the pocket pages and would love any suggestions for improvement and also I was experimenting with the size at which I was photographing my pages and I guess I went to small.  Yikes…but I wanted to post it…You can always enlarge on your computer to get a better view and please feel free to ask if you having any questions about how I did anything or what supplies I used.

Here is how my Easter pages will go in my album:

Did you know Ashley sells washi tape by the foot in her Things That Shine shop?   It is great to get a foot or two of a variety of tapes instead of having to by whole rolls that you never will use.  I for one am loving this.  Pop over to her shop and check out all the amazing patterns she has!  Also, consider following me on Pinterest where you can see the current Things That Shine kits and bits I am using, my Things That Shine projects, and all sort of other of loveliness that catches my eye.  🙂

See ya next week with a new Shiney layout, that I have to reshoot 😦

Happy Scrapping!!!

Finding What the Bunny Left

Hey there!

I’m back with another Easter layout for Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine.  I used Ashley’s Spring Showers kit, handmade feathers, and a few sequins from her Pop of Color in Neon Green.  I really love the BE AWESOME card included in the Spring Showers kit and knew I wanted to include it in this layout featuring my son showing off his Easter Egg Hunt loot.

DSCN3897

Now for some details…

DSCN3888

Here I layered a few sequins form the Pop of  Color in Neon Green over these lovely silver lined labels from the Spring Shower kit.  I added a little bit of light blue acrylic paint on the labels to relate back to the BE AWESOME card.  I misted the dictionary page that is part of the kit packaging with a bronze mist.  Who says you can’t mix metals!  I also did rows of machine stitching to bring a subtle texture to the background.

DSCN3890

A close up of the wonderful handmade feathers by Ashley.  They made me want to get some paint on my page too.  So I grabbed this parchment color and dry brushed it on.

DSCN3886

Like I said, I totally love this sweet “awesome” card and wanted it to really stand out on the page, so I used a walnut ink dabber to color cream photo corners to frame it.

Be sure to check out Ashley’s shop here, because it is so wonderful to work with things that inspire you to get even more creative!!

Thanks for visiting today!  I am taking a bloggy break and will be back the first week in September.  I am just about done with another Things That Shine pocket page and I can’t wait to share it!!  And for more fun things to look at, you can  follow me on Pinterest.

You Love to Camp

Hey there!  I’m finally posting my first Things That Shine layout today!!!  It has been a stressful few weeks of major computer problems leading to a not so sudden death last Thursday.  Ugh!!!  But, as you can tell I’m up and running, which means major dollars forked over for a new machine  and thankfully a techy type guy to transfer all our data over to this new beast.  So, on to the layout.

DSCN3769I used the first days of summer kit from Ashley Calder and the Things That Shine to create this layout.  This wonderful kit full of fresh greens and aqua blues was perfect for this camping layout.

DSCN3755This woodsy washi tape is a perfect back drop for my title.  I love the contrast of the masculine feel and the lovely sentiments.

DSCN3763

To coordinate with the washi, I used walnut ink to customize plain cream photo corners.  The layer of dictionary paper is actually part of the kit packaging.  I just dry brushed some acrylic paint over it to coordinate with the green embellishments from the kit.

DSCN3751

And last but not least, I had to include this detail, similar to my sneak post, of this super cute wood veneer tree and hanging birdie.  I placed the star embellishments around the tree to really give the feel of camping under the stars and also for my star camper!

So, pop over the Ashley’s etsy shop Things That Shine a get this wonderful kit for yourself.  It is perfect for capturing your summer memories; bike rides, picnics in the park, long walks, and more.  Actually I’ve got another project waiting in the wings I made with this kit and I still have left over goodies.

See ya soon with more Shiney Projects and visit Ashley’s shop so you can get Shiney too!!

A Peak at the Pompidou

Happy Monday!  Here I am with a new Paris layout for Sketch-N-Scraps’ new Inspired by challenge.  Here is the wonderful sketch by Kelly Holifield; Inspired by Sketch #2:

And here is my layout:

DSCN3034

I remember walking down Rue du Temple, turning my head and unexpectedly seeing the Pompidou….I felt my college Art History classes coming to life.  The Centre Georges Pompidou is a museum for modern art, a public library, and a center for music and acoustic research.  Then center is named after Georges Pompidou, who commisioned the building.  He was the President of France from 1969 to 1974.  Unfortunatly, the museum was closed while we were in Paris, so I never got to go inside it.  However, I do have photos taken on a later date of the colorful water fountains in front of the museum.  I can’t wait to scrap those!  If you would like to learn more about the Pompidou, click this link.

Details, details:

DSCN3040

Incorporating fortune cookie fortunes into my layouts is something I use to do in the past.  I decided to revive this fun tradition of mine!

DSCN3042  I layered and stitched down these October Afternoon banner flags and then bent them up for some added dimension.

DSCN3045  I used some of my “try it out left over stampy paper” to create this banner.  This camera stamp is an exclusive from JBS Mercantile and the yellow tag is vintage from one of Jenni’s past kits.

DSCN3047

This My Mind’s Eye chipboard bird cage banner flag completes the underlying bird theme going on in this layout.  It started with the little October Afternoon bird saying, “Shhh,” in the middle of the trims, to the little bluebird on the banner flags, to this bird cage, that I thought related to the building of the Pompidou itself.  I also just love these Teresa Collins photo corners that I’ve been trying and trying to use.  I was so happy when they worked on this layout!

I really loved working with this sketch and I know you will too!  So, get yourself over to the Sketch-N-Scrap challenge blog for all the details and link up to win.  The prize this month is sponsored by Sketch-N-Scrap, which is some awesome goodies from Crate Paper’s Love Notes collection.
