The spirit of places.
Hello everyone! Today I’m bringing you a layout featuring an amazing Paris mural. You can see I took the span of it in two photos and pieced them together. You’ll also notice in the photos the last word of the title was cut off…so as you might expect, I was back on google maps playing Nancy Drew. Low and behold I found the same photo from a couple different viewpoints; L-I was finished with E-U-X. The street sign from my photo, Rue des Haudriettes, led me there. I don’t know why I get such a thrill when I see almost the exact photo as mine on google maps, but I do??!!
I took my inspiration for the layout design from Sketch-N-Scrap #44. Here’s the layout….
Here’s the sketch….
A few things I did to change it up was to place the vintage Dennison lables on an angle (instead of using a circular background) and use the color of the stenciled bronze Perfect Pearls mist and the peachy lace to give a similar effect as the framing rectangle behind the photos. I really love using sketches. I love the challenge of putting my own spin on the sketch while adhering to the basic design.
And now for a few details….
Okay, I have to say…I’m just a little proud of my boldness to cut the October Afternoon Travel Girl Journaling Cards patterned paper into strips. (No hubris here, just a little proud.) The light bulb went off and I just did it! I really like how it brings so much energy and interest to the page.
Here a bit of red cardstock draws attention to the word Paris as it joins in with the other reds to lead your eye around the page.
A closer look at the photo match up, the JBS Mercantile stencil from the July 2013 Papercrafting kit, and the Jenni Bowlin Studio Red Skinny Alphas. Because the match up of the photos caused them to be placed on angles, I really had fun playing with the placement of the other elements in the layout…deciding what I wanted straight verses not so straight.
Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: October Afternoon-Travel Girl Guidebook, Journaling Cards; Lace trim: Webster’s Pages-Best Friends; Stickers: OA-Postmarked Label Stickers; Alphas: Jenni Bowlin Studio-Red Skinny Alphas(& star), OA-Mini Market Land & Sea; Stencil: JBS Mercantile July 2013 Papercrafting kit; Stamps: Hero Arts; Punch: JBS/Fiskars-File This; Stamping ink: Ranger Archival Ink-Jet Black; Misting ink: Ranger Perfect Pearls Mists-Bronze; Ribbon: Offray; Thread: Coats and Clark; Pen: Zig Millennium; Other: Vintage perforated Dennison address labels from the JBS June 2013 Papercrafting kit.
I’ll be away from my computer next week, so I wanted to wish you all a very very Happy Thanksgiving! Don’t forget to wear your Turkey Pants*, lol!! *(An old “Friends” TV show reference.)
xo, Evie

awesome work on this one!! Not sure how you did parts of it but it looks amazing!!!
What a great take on the sketch. I always dismiss sketches with large circles in the background (my cutting skills just aren’t up to them) but I love the way you have made it work without. Great Google story too.
