A Things That Shine Collage

Hi all!

The day is finally here.  The unveiling of my mystery project. 😉  Something has been creatively brewing for awhile and one of the main catalysis to finally make me “go for it” was when I received the new Things That Shine Fall Kits from Ashley.  These kits are so perfect for scrapbooking, card making, and other crafty pursuits, but the eclectic mix of awesome supplies where telling me to make a mixed media collage.  And so I did!

I started on a gessoed 9×12 sheet of watercolor paper.  Layered on paint and collaged on this book page from the Back to School kit.

I attached this charming little paper airplane charm from the Back to School kit with white embroidery floss from the Celebrate Summer kit.

I penciled out the “A” stencil and painted around it with raw umber acrylic paint.  I created the frame with strips I cut from a fabric tape that came from the Little Boy Fox kit.

And here is a closer look.  The fabric was originally a cream color with brown flowers.  I first painted on classic teal then cream paint.  Then I heighted the color with a teal Caran d’Arche Neocolor.  I used the same Neocolor crayon to write the word “lesson”. [and here I’ll say that the in reality the teals in this piece are a little more toward the greenish side]

After I stenciled the “2”, I in-lined it with various colored pencils so it would be more defined.

I used this altered label holder to contain the label maker “learned”.  The label holder was a shiney black plastic that I first painted with raw umber paint and then dry brushed on some gold.  Here you can see a bit of the teal seam binding I used on the bottom and left side of the collage.  This seam binding along with a variety of other bluey tealy colors come  from the Falling Leaves kit.
