The Play Date Cafe Challenge #176

Hello all!  Last week my son had his spring break, so I decided to take off a week of scrapping and blogging to spend some quailty time with him.   We went to the library, watched cartoons and major league baseball,  went to some our favorite shops, and had some of our favorite treats.  But, of course, I couldn’t help but pop over to the message boards and haunt my favorite blogs.  I was somewhat sucessful in my endeavors to put all arty stuff aside, until mid-week when the Jenni Bowlin Studio Inspiration blog announced the current Play Date Cafe challenge!   With such a beautiful color story and cool prize (a $25. JBS Mercantile gift card), I just had to get to work on a layout

The colors are listed as  Cappuccino, Slate, and Burlap.  Here is my take on the challenge.DSCN1581

I used the Jenni Bowlin Studio March 2013 Papercrafting kit with the addition of the brown dotted Modern Mercantile patterned paper from the JBS Feb. 2013 Papercrafting kit.

Above is a detail of the layering that’s happening in this layout – sanding Coredinations cardstock, stenciling with Tsukineko “Coffee Bean” pigment ink, and stacking sequins, vintage buttons and those fabulous Studio Calico Wood Veneer Bubbles.

To create this stamped embellishment, I started by mixing Claudine Hellmuth Studio white and black gessos together to make this “slate” gray to paint over old book pages.  I then stamped over top with this JBS March kit exclusive Modern Mercantile spool stamp using the same pigment ink.  If you look closely you can see some of the text from the book pages showing through.  The bitty alphas layered on top are also from Claudine Hellmuth.

Here again, you can see I used some of the painted book pages as layering underneath the Studio Calico vellum and as a punched heart.  The little  *   from the same Dear Lizzy thickers as the title is inked with the same “Coffee Bean” ink.

I punched a little heart in this Jenni Bowlin Studio “File This” punch, so I can file this layout under LOVE!

And now for some more fun!

centipede

Doris has done it again!  She had come up with a new game to keep us hopping and bopping this month over at the JBS Mercantile Forum.  There are lots of challenges to pick and choose from to grow your centipede and lots of opportunities to win a prize.  Actually, I just grew two segments by participating in The Play Date Cafe Challenge and by stamping on old book pages.  Come and join the fun!  The more the merrier and the more people that participate the more prizes awarded.

Also, to wrap up lasts months JBS game, Calvinball, my final total was 39.5.  And…ta da…I was picked at random for the $25. JBS Mercantile gift card for participating in that game.  So, besides have loads of fun, it pays to play!!!
